The Community Surf Rescue Certificate Refresher updates and assesses the skills and knowledge required to safely supervise, respond to emergencies and perform basic rescues in aquatic environments.
This certificate is recognised under Department of Education water safety guidelines and is widely accepted across the aquatic industry, including schools, surf programs and commercial operators, and is suitable for participants aged 13 years and over who hold a current or recently expired Community Surf Rescue Certificate.

Course Content

- SLSA signals
- Risk assessment and hazard identification
- Identifying safe beach zones
- Basic first aid for aquatic environments
- Rescues techniques (tube and body/board rescues)
- 100m run/100m swim/100m run (5 minute time limit)
- 200m swim (recognisable stroke – 5 minute time limit)
Assessment
Assessment is completed through practical demonstration and observation of required skills.
- Participants will be assessed on previously learnt skills and knowledge, with a focus on competency and safe application in an aquatic environment.
- Participants must demonstrate competence in all required skills and knowledge.
Certification
Upon successful completion, participants will receive the Community Surf Rescue Certificate, recognised under Department of Education water safety guidelines and across a range of aquatic supervision settings.
Certificates are typically issued within 10 working days of course completion. Same-day or temporary certificates are not provided.
Validity
Valid for one (1) year from the date of completion.
